Central Ontario Rowing Association Regatta

Sponsored by the South Niagara Rowing Club - Dain City, Welland, Ontario - Saturday, June 23rd, 2007

NPARC at the Central Ontario Rowing Association Regatta

Looks like another feather in the NPARC cap. Organizers were again very pleased with our stations at the start line, finish line and boat house during the Central Ontario Rowing Association Regatta in Welland on Saturday, June 23rd, 2007. The regatta was hosted by the South Niagara Rowing Club. Bob, ve3kya and Peter, ve3hm called the starts. Rick, ve3atm and myself Peter, va3wet kept the judges informed at the finish line about any race changes such as boats running without bow markers. Ron, ve3mx and his wife Ruth, ve3mxx at the boat house, announced changes from the race organizers and received race results from the finish line station. Ron and Ruth also received a call for the St. John Ambulance from the finish line to attend to a situation at the hot seat dock. Everyone was kept very busy and received a nice box lunch consisting of a chicken wrap, chips, an apple and fruit juice. Thank-you to the organizers for the delicious lunch. A speaker was set up at the finish line so the racing fans in the near-by bleachers could hear the starts.

The weather could not have been better. The temperature was around 22 to 24 and the humidity was low with not a cloud in the sky. It was a perfect day for a regatta. We should have some photos in the next few days.

I would like to thank Peter, ve3hm for getting the club members organized and for supplying ARES radios to members that could not supply their own radios for the event. Well done Peter. I understand Peter will be looking for more volunteers for the up coming July regattas. The next regatta will be the RowOntario Masters Championship on Sunday, July 15th, 2007. Contact Peter at ve3hm @ cogeco.ca to volunteer. These are fun events with great people. Members and non-members are encouraged to volunteer and help. These events help to spread the word about amateur radio.

73,
Peter, va3wet
